In Chinese Metaphysics, ZeRi or what is popularly known as Date Selection, is one of the many branches of study that can have an impact on our daily lives and decision-making.
In a Chinese household, you are likely to find a copy of Tong Shu which is a traditional Chinese almanac for do-it-yourself Date Selection.
Many people assume that Date Selection is merely a selection of a "good" date to embark on important activities like ground breaking or moving house. There's actually much more to it than that. The philosophy behind this art, is to uncover a point in time where the energies are the strongest and most conducive to undertake suitable activities to gain a positive outcome.
Predating the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD), this invaluable practice was used mainly as an instrument in periods of warfare. Gradually, this technique was expanded and used in key economic activities such as planting and harvesting of crops. These days, we see the influence of Date Selection everywhere - even when we don't notice it.
Adoption
From conventional matters like marriage, burial, job interview or opening ceremony to other activities like diet plan, pet adoption or surgery, Date Selection remains an important point in many significant activities in our lives.
Many people know that they should have a good date to start an activity but don't really know why. Without proper training and understanding of the various methods to assess Date Selection techniques, many people simply cannot produce a solid reason to justify why a particular day is good or bad.
To the public, this creates an impression of randomness or superstition in the selection of seemingly auspicious dates. A practitioner needs to immerse himself in the knowledge, application, methodology and the history of Date Selection.
Date Selection comprises numerous methods and has different ways to assess and select a positive date for your most daunting or anticipated tasks.
There are two key aspects to the technique of Date Selection. The first is a more popular one which involves selecting the actual day for the activity.
The other aspect, refers to the best time, within the day, where the activity will be carried out. When used together, these two methods present a more exhaustive analysis to "correctly" assess the prospect of a certain day, right down to the hour.
When done correctly, you will get a headstart from "doing the right thing, at the right time".
Qi
Depending on the day and time, we experience a constantly evolving natural energy level in our environment, known to us as Qi. Knowing Date Selection, you can make the right choice by capitalising on the most auspicious period for the right activity to gain the desired outcome.
Remember, time can be your best friend or foe. Depending on how we use and look at it, we can actually capitalise on the forces of Qi to help us to maximise the outcome of an activity or unwittingly, destroy an endeavour.
Just like everything else in the world, too much of it can be bad. You can gain your edge through the power of picking a good date and make the most of it but don't go overboard.
If you have nothing to lose, heeding the natural flow of nature could be fun as well.
To really understand and apply the art of Date Selection, I suggest reading my book, Personal Date Selection. It is your stepping stone to get yourself acquainted with the skill of selecting good dates for a host of activities and personal endeavours.
