Aquariums: More Than Just An Aesthetic Choice
Source : SME
Date : 1 Aug 2015
by Dato Joey Yap

In Feng Shui, Water serves to collect and stimulate Qi and this is because of the versatility of Water as an activating force that generally produces faster and immediate results. It is even versatile enough to allow anyone to include it into any property with or without the need for any major renovation or alterations.

The role of Water serves a trilogy of purposes – to accumulate, to collect Qi, and to gather Qi. Where Water is present, that is where the Qi gathers. When Qi gathers, it collects and accumulates. In that sense, Water can function as a natural barricade to direct and redirect, as well as, to retain Sheng Qi (Positive Qi) and diffuse or neutralize Sha Qi (Negative Qi) appropriately.

When prescribing a Water solution, a Feng Shui master would suggest an aquarium rather than a water feature or some other water-storage receptacle. You may wonder why having an aquarium is preferable when you can have a pond or fountain. For starters, aquariums are aesthetically pleasing to look at and they can be easily installed anywhere without any renovation problems. They also do not require much maintenance in keeping it clean.

When it comes to matters related to aquariums, there are some concerns regarding the Feng Shui validity of aquariums in interior Feng Shui. One of such concerns involves the size of your aquarium. If your aquarium is purely for recreation or fish rearing purposes, the size of the aquarium is really up to your discretion. Nevertheless, it is important to recognize that a substantially size aquarium will invariably assert some Feng Shui effect to your property. If you plan to have a large aquarium – 5 feet in length, it is best to consult a Feng Shui master before selecting a location to place it in.

The number and types of fish in your aquarium has more to do with your personal preference. It is a misconception that certain types of fish can bring wealth or are wealth magnets. This is simply not true. Fishes are usually added to help keep the water active and to provide more colorful and aesthetic appeal to an aquarium. What is more important is that the aquarium is located in the right sector or positioned appropriately.

As Water collects and stimulates Qi and aquariums serve this purpose, it is not only important to know if your house can accommodate your aquarium but that it can also accommodate it in a safe location. Additionally, it is important to ensure that the Water will not negatively affect property and its Qi.

From a Feng Shui perspective, the Southwest, East, North and Southeast are considered safe sectors to locate your aquarium. As long as your house’s interior Feng Shui is considered good, then this aquarium may bring favourable Qi and support all your endeavours, especially financial matters. However, before you rush out to buy an aquarium, it would be prudent to consult a Feng Shui consultant first to properly evaluate the placement of water features in your property. Doing so will ensure that having an aquarium and knowing where to place it will add to your benefit and that of your home instead of just serving as an aesthetic piece of interior decoration.
