March 24 - 27, 2012
It was a long time waiting for this day to come, especially for those keen on the study of Yi Jing or the Chinese science of divination. Many were thrilled when Joey Yap decided to teach Yi Jing again this year after a long hiatus since 2009.
Students for the recent Yi Jing Mastery™ Modules 1 & 2 at M Hotel, Singapore, were clearly excited and brimming with enthusiasm throughout the four-day course. Day One began with Module 1 as Joey took on to familiarize the students with the history of Yi Jing, its development and concept. He explained that every culture practices its own form of oracle or divination. The Chinese has Yi Jing, which helps one to narrow down options on important matters in life by asking a question through divination and to derive an outcome of a decision. He also shared several Classical Yi Jing methods such as Text (Theory), Numeric and Image methods based on the different schools. On Day Two, Joey continued the lesson with the 64 Hexagrams and how it is derived according to the Text/Theory form.
The students immersed into their studies further on Day Three with Module 2, when Joey introduced them to the Plum Blossom Numerology. With this method, the students learnt about Gua Derivation Techniques based on date and time, number of objects, sounds, words, measurements, etc. They also discovered methods on how to consider the factors and variables in order to deduce or predict an outcome to a question as well as extra techniques on finding options to solutions of a bad outcome. Joey also taught the students on how to do a yearly forecast for an individual to guide him/her through each month of the year.
After three days of studying the theory, Day Four had all the students excited as they apply what they've learnt so far into practice. Joey gave the students a prediction exercise using Yi Jing, where he presented ten items on a table and asked the students to predict which item he had written on a piece of paper. This created quite a buzz in class as the students attempted to derive a prediction, and many were pleased when they successfully found the correct answer. The students spent the day with more practical exercises as Joey guided them through.
Without a doubt, the students thoroughly enjoyed the lessons on the yearly individual forecast and practical applications once they have a good grasp of the techniques. This was truly an eye-opening learning experience for each student as they now can fully understand how Classical Yi Jing works and are capable to wield its application for modern day divination.
